Curriculum Vitae

I obtained a specialist degree in Plant Medicine from the University of Bologna in the A.Y. 2008/2009.
In 2009 I began my research activity at the Department of Agri-food Protection and Enhancement of the same University with a scholarship as part of the PRIN 2008 project “The induction of resistance as a strategy to combat fungal pathogens of post-harvest in apples: investigations on biochemistry, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics”. During this first experience I carried out preliminary studies on the application of alternative methodologies to chemical treatments to improve the preservation of fruit (apples) by reducing the onset of fungal rot typical of the post-harvest phase. In particular, the research made it possible the optimization of heat treatment protocols on apples of “Pink Lady”, “Golden” and “Gala” cultivars, reducing the susceptibility to lenticellar rot caused by Neofabrea spp. The methodology was extended on large-scale experiments in collaboration with Apofruit cooperative, at the Cesena headquarters. I obtained the title of PhD with the thesis “Control of fruit postharvest diseases by thermotherapy. Understanding the mechanisms of action by-omics approaches” at the same University. The part of the study focused on the effects of heat treatment on the gene expression of “Ultima Gala” apple cultivar was carried out at the USDA center in Kearnesville (West Virginia, USA) under the supervision of Dr. Michael Wisniewski. Similar studies were carried out on peach, with the evaluation of the variation of volatile compounds by collaborating with the Sensory Qualities research group of the Department of Food Quality and Nutrition of the Edmund Mach Foundation.
In 2015 I have continued my work at the laboratories of the Department of Soil, Plant and Food Sciences of the University of Bari, collaborating in plant pathology works under the supervision of Dr. Francesco Faretra.
From 2015 to 2018 I was involved in a molecular fingerprint project on autochthonous Apulian grape varietis collaborating with Dr. Cinzia Montemurro.
In 2019 I took part in the monitoring activities following the phytosanitary emergency due to the introduction of Xylella fastidiosa in Puglia at the CIHEAM Agronomic Institute.
I am author of various scientific papers published in specialized journals.
